'Navy Basic'

In Navy Basic Training, I soon learned that everything we recruits used actually belonged to the Company Commander! For instance, he referred to the stuff in our lockers as “my trash,” and the racks we slept in as “my racks!” One time when we were all whispering in the bathroom while making “head calls,” our Company Commander must had overheard us!!!

To our surprise, he suddenly yelled …

“WHY DO I HEAR VOICES IN MY HEAD?!?”

  1. Ha! Truth. Once you got to know the Company Commanders, you realized how cool it was that they were actually trying to help you. I still remember mine...RM1 Busby.

The 2nd one I don't recall because about mid way they rotated him out and I don't recall him or his replacement.

For me, basic was pretty awesome. It reminded me a lot of camping, and I certainly did not mind the physical training and getting "mashed."

Ok...galley duty pretty much sucked, but it isn't all supposed to be roses.

  2. I served 30 then retired, still remember boot, grew up on a farm in Arizona. So greatlakes in Jan was just a little colder than I was used to lol.
As for the physical hell I worked harder on the farm, I honestly got more sleep and food in boot than I ever had. I truly kept waiting for it to get hard. Now I'm not saying I didnt learn anything of course I did, and was exposed to many new things. But because of how I grew up I went in expecting things to be worse than I had experienced prior.
The navy took me on an adventure that no fairy tale or sea story could do just, good days bad days and a treasure of memories.
I still long for a sunset on a gently pitching deck where you clear your mind and wonder what lay ahead.

  4. Navy boot camp was easy, not physical at all, not really a mind game, our CC was out to make sailors not bust balls, for service week I went to the base MAA where I made coffee field day their shack and painted rocks. we graduated with 6 flags
