An ol’ Salt & His Tattoo

An ol’ Salty Popeye look’n  ‘Crackerjack’ gets home from an overseas tour and his wife, Linda, asks…

"So what the hell have you been up too while on deployment and why haven’t you called?"

The ol’ Salt replies…

"I was out sailing the seven seas and getting a tattoo!"

"A tattoo?" … she frowned … "What kind of tattoo did you get?"

"I got a hundred dollar bill on my privates!"

…he said proudly.

"What the hell were you thinking?"

… she inquired while shaking her head in disdain!

"Why on earth would a broke ass sailor get a hundred Dollar bill tattooed on his privates?"

"Well, one, I like to watch my money grow…  Two, once in a while I like to play with my money…  Three, I like how money feels in my hand…  And, lastly, instead of you going out shopping and spending every red cent I have to my name… now you can stay right here at home and blow a hundred bucks anytime you want!!"

  1. In 1972 I served with a really, really old salt who was coming up on his 30 years. Serve at the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He had twin screws tatooed on his ass, one big one on each butt cheek. Above them was written "40 KNOTS AND NO SMOKE" He must have been a real steamer, being only a QM1 after 29 years

  2. Was the fellow with the tatoo Quartermaster Melvin Cole? I served with him in the early 1970's on board the USS Scamp SSN-588 and he had the same tatoos!

    1. I was like 12, at a soulfood kitchen in Dallas, TX. I saw this very tattoo on a man whom my father had met that day at the restaurant. I knew right then I was going to be a tattoo'd Navy man when I grew up.

  4. The best tattoo I saw waa on an ol salt while in Pinky's. He was giving us young salts advice on where to get a tatto. Never on the lower arms, most people don't like them he said. Get them on your upper arm or better yet, on your ass. He then drops his drawers and show us the tatto on his ass cheek. An anchor chain draped across his cheek with the a sign....if you won't more chain, holler down the hole!! lmao

  5. In my years in both the Navy and Marines, I have noticed that the tattoos that sailors preferred were mostly funny. The Marines had mostly Gung Ho ones. I was going to get one in a shop in Hawaii but I was so drunk I kept sliding out of the chair. So, that is my story and I'm sticking to it!
